Thanksgiving is in a few days and I know that many of you are struggling with the decision of whether or not to indulge. You might be worried about the extra calories and how they will impact you weight loss progress. But, Thanksgiving doesn't have to be a guilt-ridden holiday. In fact, there are plenty of ways to enjoy Thanksgiving without overindulging. Here are my top tips for keeping your Thanksgiving healthy and guilt-free!
- Stick to your regular routine and don't overindulge in appetizers or desserts.
- Fill up on fiber-rich foods like roasted vegetables and whole grains.
- Avoid excessive amounts of sodium by choosing lean protein options like turkey breast instead of legs or wings.
- Drink plenty of water and avoid alcoholic drinks, which are high in calories and seriously impact your sleep cycle (a critical factor in weight loss and recovery) for days.
- Skip the seconds and dessert and save room for leftovers instead!
- Fill your plate up in this order: Protein, Vegetables/Salad then everything else you'd like. You should only be left with no more than 1/4 of your plate for all of the calorie-dense foods. Make sure your portion sizes are within reason--resist the temptation to overflow your plate with mashed potatoes!
